An extreme clipper ship, Morning Star was built in 1853 by Toby & Littlefield, Portsmouth, NH, at a cost of $117.000. It sailed at various times from Boston to San Francisco, Cardiff to San Francisco, San Francisco to Callao, and many other routes. In 1863 it was sold to the Black Ball Line, Liverpool, and was renamed Queen of the South.
