"March 30, 1929
My Dear Mr. Kingsley,
It was a pleasure to hear you are coming home and feeling well.
I am looking forward to meeting all the fine men on your Board many of whom I know.
With best Easter greetings, I am
Very Truly Yours,
Calvin Coolidge
Mr. Darwin P. Kingsley
New York City"
Darwin P. Kingsley (1857-1932) was the President and on the board of Directors for New York Life Insurance Company. He was originally from Alburgh, Vermont and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1881. Kingsley became interested in the insurance business and chose to make it his life's work after working for two years at Capital at Denver as state auditor and superintendent of insurance. Right before Kingsley's election to his presidency (1905), the insurance industry was under a stupendous amount of scrutiny and reform, especially in New York, that was exposing corruption and questionable corporate practices within life insurance. With Kingsley as president, it took the company upward while the insurance world was in critical survey.
