John Ewin was elected Alderman in 1655, but refused the office. He was subsequently elected Mayor for 1659-60, and was incumbent to announce the proclamation of the Restoration of the Monarchy and ascension of King Charles II to the throne. Similarly Thomas Ewin held the post of Mayor three times in 1679, 1690 and 1699.
