After Tiziano Vecellio, called Titian
Cameria, or Mihrimah Sultan (1522-1578), daughter of

Suleyman the Magnificent
oil on canvas
57.2 x 45.6 cm.

Condition Report:
The canvas is lined, the paint surface is fairly clean, and the varnish is clear and even. A slight stretcher mark has become visible around the margins, and some unevenness in the paint surface is apparent in raking light in the upper right corner, due to some retouching to the craquelure here. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms this, and reveals other retouchings scattered in the background, which fluoresce lightly. Another campaign of retouchings, which fluoresce a dark colour, is revealed in sensitively-executed lines to the craquelure in the sitter's face and hand. Small spots of restoration are also sparsely scattered in her dress. None of these disturbs the legibility of the image, which presents well in its current state without a need for any further intervention.
