Details

Delteil XVII, 68, II.

Description

A very fine impression, one of only nine published during the artist’s lifetime. With wide margins.
In search of new motifs, Pissarro spent some time in Rouen in the autumn of 1883. In addition to paintings, he created a total of 20 etchings in which he captured the old, narrow streets with their half-timbered houses, surmounted by high church towers. Partly etched directly onto the plate, he created atmospherically dense views of the city that fascinate with their wealth of expressive possibilities of graphic means. – Minimally stained in the margin. A slight crease in the upper left corner, a horizontal, printer’s crease at the bottom, otherwise in good condition.
