Campanian Pottery red-figure bell krater with Dionysian scene, 26 cm diam

Wide-mouthed krater of inverted bell-shape with a tall foot, and two short loop handles on either side of the body. Decorated in black-glaze and red-figured scenes. Side A: A scene with a a satyr stands before her. Side B: On the reverse, two draped youths facing one another, one leaning on a staff. Large palmettes beneath each handle. Campanian vase painting is one of the five regional styles of South Italian red-figure vase painting. It forms a close stylistic community with Apulian vase painting. Provenance: W. Larsen, London, UK 1964, Belgium private collection, acquired in 1990 by A. Maes, W.
