Campo del Cielo Meteorite Cube Iron, IAB-MG Chaco, Argentina Found: 1576 This impressive cube has been made out of the famed Camp del Cielo Meteorite from Argentina. This stout example weighs in at 1,069 grams and measures just over 2-inches. Each face on this rare offering has been cut and exhibits both a metallic and dull luster that has been etched to reveal the broad Widmanstätten pattern. The unique crystallization, also referred to as Thomson structures, is diagnostic of certain octahedrite meteorites. The elongated crystals of Nickel-Iron are interwoven "belts" of Kamacite and Taenite bands referred to as "lamellae." The light and dark silvery-gray of the patterned banding adds both contrast and intrigue to this robust specimen from outer space. There are other natural inclusions present creating a complex and aesthetic appearance. Overall Measurements: 2.06 x 2.06 x 2.02 inches (5.24 x 5.22 x 5.14 cm), weighs 1,069 grams [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
