Campo del Cielo Meteorite Slice Iron, IAB-MG Chaco, Argentina Found: 1576 This incredibly huge slab, likely 'center cut' from a giant meteorite piece, weighs a serious 5.4 kilograms (11.9 pounds) and measures a whopping 15 inches (38.1 cm) long, making it an unusually sizable sample of the iconic Campo del Cielo Iron, IAB-MG from Argentina documented as first found in 1576. Expected for the variety, the Widmanstätten patterning is broad and spacious consistent in terms of its bandings of lamellae with the famous meteorite. The exposed and angled edging shows a rough texture and bright color with hues of orange, red, and brown. Of particular note and key to this enormous offering, several impressive and rare Troilite inclusions are visible on both surfaces of this expansive meteorite slab. This museum size specimen of high quality and representing such a significant Iron is big, bold, and beautiful.
