Canada. 1935 Silver Dollar. PCGS MS-65, Pittman Collection.

[ translate ]

An attractive specimen with detail and luster consistent with PCGS' assigned Gem Uncirculated grade.

John J. Pittman (1913-1996) was a Rochester, NY-based Eastman Kodak chemical engineer who assembled a fantastic coin collection over the course of his life, beginning in the 1930s. He served on the United States Assay Commission of 1947, as a board member of the American Numismatic Association for several decades, and as the ANA's President from 1971 to 1973. He had a central role in the creation of the Bicentennial Quarter and was the recipient of numerous numismatic accolades. The sale of his extensive collections in the late 1990s realized more than $30 million.

A desirable provenance on a coin that, while outside of Pittman's main collecting areas, attests to Pittman's eye for quality.
