Canapé - Louis XVI Style - Beech, Velvet - Second half 19th century

A 19th century (cream) white painted wooden bench, made during the French Napoleon III period around 1860-1880 in the 18th century Louis XVI style. The bench is very richly decorated with refined carving & turning work with the typical Louis XVI style features such as; the fluting in the legs & back posts, rosettes, flower & (palmet) leaf motifs and various profile edges. The bench is solid and rests on the original wheels. The painting of the backrest at the rear has been updated at some point. The bench has recently been reupholstered with a blue velvet fabric, which is very well reflected in the worn painting with a beautiful patina!
