Canoe Prow - Papua New Guinea

A wood carved canoe prow in the shape of a crocodile head with large teeth, canoe handle at back of head. Display stand is included. 21" H x 12" W; 10 lbs. See equivalent: Global Museum, San Francisco State University. The design of the prow incorporates totemic symbols, ancestral figures, animals, or mythological beings, each with its own significance and meaning within the cultural context. Additionally, the carving style and motifs may also convey social status, clan affiliation, or other aspects of identity within the community.
