Capote's first venture into musical theatre, an adaptation of his own novella about the ladies of a bordello in the French West Indies. First presented on Broadway in 1954, it was revived off-Broadway in 1968 and didn't fare much better, although it did occasion this first publication of its book and lyrics. (This is one of those anomalous books for which Random House did not explicitly state "First Printing"; $4.50 printed price on the unclipped jacket.).
