Card Sharper after Valentin de Boulogne Painting
Large antique oil on canvas figural oil painting after Valentin de Boulogne (1598-1634 Italy / France) Long attributed to Caravaggio until 1906, "The Card Sharper" depicts young boys playing cards in the old master style. This antique copy hung in the Firestone home in Memphis Tennessee and was sold when the Firestone plant was closed. Artist signature lower right. Canvas measures 37 1/2" x 55". Frame measures 49" x 66 1/2". Fair to good condition with darkened surface, surface craquelure with associated paint losses. Frame rubbing on borders, small areas of restoration to the painting and losses to frame. Provenance: Private Palm Beach Estate. Hill Auction Gallery will not ship.
