Handwritten inscription on the reverse: "Painted while working for the Last Communion" - this refers to the large painting "Communion in Hesse" (now in the Museum of Art and Cultural History at the Philipps University in Marburg). There are three similarly dressed women, but seen from behind. Also handwritten on the reverse: "Die alte Sieberten aus Merzhausen".
