A Russian Royal Fabergé presentation diamond-, enamel- and 14k gold brooch, of lozenge form, centre with the crowned monogram of Queen Marie of Romania in silver, set with numerous rose-cut diamonds, with green translucent enamel on guilloched ground, gold and opaque white enamel borders with waves, set with four old-cut diamonds. Carl Fabergé in Moscow, c. 1900, 56 standard. H. 1.8 cm. L. 4 cm.

Queen Marie of Romania (1875–1938) was the daughter of Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh and second son of Queen Victoria of England, and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia, daughter of Tsar Alexander II of Russia. She was married in 1893 to the later King Ferdinand I of Romania and was Crown Princess of Romania 1893–1914. Queen Marie of Romania had family ties to many Imperial and Royal families. Thus, she was the cousin to both Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his wife, Tsaritsa Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia, but also to Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany, Queen Sophie of Greece, King George V of England, and Queen Maud of Norway.

It is presumed that the Queen gave the brooch as a present in her years as a Crown Princess. According to DeeAnn Hoff, Fabergé Research Site (Fall 2015), the monogram was designed by the Queen herself in 1896, precisely while she was Crown Princess.

Provenance: Private Danish ownership until today. Owned by the same family since c. 1900.
