"Picking Oranges", 1847. Oil on canvas, signed "C. Blaas" and dated 1847 Roma center right, framed in a gessoed and gilded wood frame, overall 31" x 24". Provenance: Christie's London February 16, 1989 sale Lot 85E. It is also possible that this work was sold through Christie’s in the early summer of 1948, as indicated by the black stenciled letters and numbers on the lower stretcher bar: JG 718.
Condition: Previous restorations - canvas has been relined, inpainting throughout seen under UV light with concentration to perimeter under frame, new varnish layer, minor pigment loss in lower right corner. Losses in gilding to top of frame.
