[ translate ]

\Artist: Carla Accardi (1924-2014)
Technique: Acquaforte acquatinta\Signature: Hand signed
Original aquatint etching, edition of only L copies in Roman numerals. Embossed stamp of the publisher and certificate of authenticity in accordance with the law. Carla Accardi should be considered one of the leading exponents of Italian abstractionism. After studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo, in 1946 she moved to Rome. The following year she was one of the signatories of the “Gruppo Forma 1” artistic avant-garde. The methodical research and exaltation of signs-colours would characterise her artistic personality for over half a century. In the fifties, in the climate of informal culture, she proposed a series of white signs on black backgrounds. In the sixties she managed to attain luminescent colours. In 1964 her personal room at the Venice Biennale gained her international attention. A work in continuous development led her to overcome the flat surface of the painting: she invented spatial shapes made of sicofoil sheets on which the traces of colours were transparent. A relationship between work and space that resulted in the “Tende” in the seventies: real habitable and walkable structures. Other materials were tested in the eighties: raw canvasses from which colour spreading of various intensities emerged. Many exhibitions around the world consecrated her as an artist at an international level. In 1996 she was appointed as a member of the Brera Academy and in 1997 councillor of the Venice Biennale. In 1998 her hometown dedicated an anthological exhibition to her.
