\Artist: Carla Accardi (1924-2014)
Technique: Acquaforte acquatinta\Signature: Hand signed
Aquatint etching from 2000, edition of only 80 copies. Embossed stamp of the publisher and certificate of authenticity in accordance with the law. In 1947, with Attardi, Consagra, Dorazio, Guerrini, Concetto Maugeri, Perilli, Sanfilippo (whom she married in 1949) , and Turcato, she founded the “Gruppo Forma 1” inspired by formalism and Marx. Until 1949 she exhibited during the exhibitions of the group. In 1950 she held her first solo exhibition at the Age d’Or bookshop in Rome. The following year she frequented the Salto bookshop in Milan, a meeting place for MAC artists. In Paris she met Magnelli. In 1954 she began to face problems of colour and sign reduction, documented by the 1955 solo exhibition at the San Marco gallery in Rome. In the same year, invited by Michel Tapié, she participated in the “Individualità d’oggi” international exhibition (Spazio gallery, Rome; Galerie Rive Droite, Paris) . Carla Accardi’s research continued towards the automatism of signs until the early sixties. In 1965 the artist abandoned tempera in favour of coloured and neon paints to be applied on transparent plastic supports, leaving the dimension of the painting and involving space, with an attitude that would be important for the artists of Arte Povera. In the seventies she resumed the geometric patterns repeated on large-sized canvasses called “Lenzuoli”, that would be presented at the Editalia gallery in Rome in 1974. The experiences of the seventies would continue to be investigated in a series of installations, until the reutilisation of a more traditional nature in the eighties.
