Carlo Grubacs enrolled at the Academy in Venice in 1818. There he absorbed the work of the great vedutisti such as Canaletto and Guardi. The present work depicts the Rialto Bridge. The Rialto was the commercial center of Venice housing the largest market in the city. It is the oldest and most famous of the four bridges crossing the Grand Canal.
