Lillian Carlson (1910-2003) was a familiar face in McPherson?s Arts and Crafts community in the 1970s and 1980s. Lillian was born in 1910 on the Carlson homestead just Southwest of McPherson. She was a missionary in China and India for 25 years. After returning to McPherson in 1973 to care for her mother, she took up painting. In 1982 she was the recipient of the Citations of Merit award by the Board of Trustees of McPherson College. Lillian had a special talent for putting on canvas the beauty of the quiet simplicity of God?s creations in nature and capturing the essence of the rolling plains and farms of Kansas to the mountains of Colorado.
