Carlton Ware Beefeater Yeoman Handpainted Ceramic Decanter
A Carlton Ware handpainted ceramic decanter depicting a Yeoman Warder of the Tower of London. The figure is represented in full Tudor ceremonial uniform, featuring a red tunic with gold-toned detailing, the Royal Crown, and floral emblems including the Tudor rose, thistle, and shamrock. The figure holds a separate metal partisan and stands on a green rectangular base with the gold-lettered inscription THE BEEFEATER YEOMAN. The head is topped with a black hat featuring red, white, and blue cockades, which serves as a stopper with an integrated cork. The underside of the base features a printed black mark reading GENUINE ENGLISH CERAMIC, Handpainted, Carlton Ware Ltd, STAFFORDSHIRE, MADE IN ENGLAND in a mix of block and script lettering. There is also an incised or painted orange mark reading H 527 and various smaller hand-applied marks. Four green protective felt pads are attached to the corners of the base.
Height to top of hat: 15.25 inches
Height to tip of partisan: 16.25 inches.
Condition Report:
In good condition. The cork stopper remains intact but shows signs of age-related drying (photo 2). General surface dust and minor grime are present. No chips or cracks are visible to the ceramic body.
