Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Virginia (1736-1797) who was one of the wealthiest and most powerful plantation owners in the colony. Scarce ADS, one page, 7.25 x 6, April 16, 1790. Handwritten receipt for casks of tobacco, in full: "Rec'd of James Browne the Sum of fifty pounds seven shills & four pence in part of fifty four Hogs. Tob. this Day shipt to the House of Messrs. Donald & Burton." Inlaid into a slightly larger sheet and in fine condition. A well-preserved, neatly penned document associated with his business ventures.
