Introduced in 1921, the 9-ligne, Grand Tank Cintrée model was the largest and boldest variation of Cartier’s Tank line. The curved shape was derived from the firm's tonneau series, made to fit around a wrist, with the addiction of widened sides with the sharp edges and screwed lugs from the 1919 Tank. With its long, slender, and gracefully arching case, the Cintrée is without a doubt, one of the most beautiful watches made during the 1920s to 1940s. The present lot is one of the coolest examples made in 1940’s and despite the age, its straight lines, sensual curves, and crisp angles, make it totally modern even in present days. The case has been manufactured in yellow gold and it still presents the engraved number on the back still very deep. The beautiful and expansive dial allows to see perfectly the big black Roman numerals and its inner minute closed track pointed by two blue steel Breguet hands. An archive's picture is published on the book “Le Temps de Cartier” by Jader Barracca, Giampiero Negretti and Franco Nencini at page 126.
