Carved agate ‘Dzi’ bead, Liao dynasty
An elongated, spindle-shaped Dzi-style ritual bead, crafted from natural agate with a veining pattern of very fine bands alternating between shades of ivory, bluish-grey, chestnut and brown. It is carved so that the natural veining forms an eye-like pattern in the centre. Liao Dynasty (916–1125) or later.
