Literature: Tequila Casa Dragones and Pedro Reyes are pleased to present this special edition bottle of Casa Dragones Joven as an exploration of the traditional Mexican technique of Pepita glass engraving.
Reyes’s repertoire of work is primarily inspired by the ideas of philosopher Epicurus, whose teachings on well-being are artfully translated into sculptures by Reyes. Here, he’s chosen one of his pieces, “Epicuro” (2016), a 1.8-meter tall sculpture he carved from volcanic rock, to portray with Pepita. “Epicuro,” both the original sculpture and this portrayal, embodies the delight in freedom from pain and fear. By pivoting the question of “how to be good” into “how to be happy,” the philosopher helped open up the path to self-awareness and wellness as a form of peace.
With this representation of “Epicuro,” the Casa Dragones crystal decanter’s typical delicate engravings encircling its neck and base have been traded for a single, elegantly hand-engraved design. Out of the 400 bottles made, this collection has been crafted with meticulous attention to detail and represents and approach to life.
