Cased Survey and Drafting Tools Attributed to John Coffee Hays
Lot includes a selection of drafting and survey tools from the family collection of John Coffee Hays. Hays worked as a surveyor for most of his civilian career, and was appointed US Surveyor General for California in 1853. Tools include a pair of calipers, a survey compass with leveling screws in a 6" case marked with lines of latitude of major cities; and a cased set of drafting tools marked "R. Pierce", likely French in origin. **Good condition overall. Some tarnishing and verdigris on brass parts.
