Casket - Bone, Wood - late 18th - early 19th century

A rare table casket of rectangular shape with a domed lid. The casket is made of pinewood which is covered with engraved and open-work or "ajouré" foliate panels in walrus bone, backed with mica - sheet silicate or phyllosilicate minerals - in various colors. The inside has got it's original velvet and textile with gold threaded trim. Made in Kholmogory , Archangelsk oblast (= region) , northwestern European Russia. Late 18th / early 19th century. Dimensions: H 13cm ; L 22. 7cm ; W 16cm Condition: overall in good condition with traces of age and use and some small missing parts and cracks. The key is present, but the lock doesn't seem to fonction. The casket can be opened without.
