The above work can be dated to circa 1967 as this was the year that Skotnes produce many Totem figures. They reflected the artist's fascination with the Native Americans' life and art.

Lucy Jarvis was a US television producer who visited South Africa in December 1967 to film Christiaan Barnard's groundbreaking heart transplant operation.
