In 1957, the year of sputnik, star-studded sterling flatware was continuing to be designed and released, which continued all through the 60's. President kennedy's mission in 1961 to reach the moon culminated the successful voyage of the apollo 11 spacecraft in 1969. It was an exciting time in space exploration and man's achievements in an expanding universe. This star-studded mid-century modern pattern was a direct result of our interest in space during that time. Fabulous mid-century modern celeste by gorham, c. 1956 sterling silver flatware set - 57 pieces. This set includes: 8 knives, 9 3/8"8 forks, 7 1/2"8 salad forks, 7 1/8"8 teaspoons, 6"8 place soup spoons, 7 1/8"8 hollow handle butter spreaders, 6 1/2"1 serving spoon, 8 1/2"1 pierced serving spoon, 8 1/2"1 cold meat fork, 8 5/8"1 sugar spoon, 6 1/4"1 hollow handle master butter knife, 7"1 pickle fork, 5 3/4"1 steak carving set, 2-pc, 10 1/2" & 8 3/4"1 cheese server w/stainless blade, 7 1/2" includes bonus brand new storage chest - styles vary.
