Celtic La Tene Iron Scythe Head

Ancient Central / Northern Europe, Celtic Iron Age, La Tene (sometimes called Celtic) culture, ca. 5th to 1st century BCE. A forged-iron scythe with a slender but sturdy tang, a stocky body, a rectangular axe head protruding from one side, and a crescent-shaped scythe blade on top. Remarkably, both the axe head and scythe blade still retain extremely sharp edges. Fine layers of russet, citrine, and grey patina have formed across the composition. Size: 4.25" W x 11.75" H (10.8 cm x 29.8 cm); 13.75" H (34.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired in early 2000s
