Chaim Gross (American, 1904-1991) 'Caring' Patinated Bronze

[ translate ]

CHAIM GROSS (American, 1904–1991): An authentic, mid-to-late 20th-century modernist cast bronze sculpture titled "Caring" (also known as "Mother and Child"), beautifully hand-signed with the artist's incised signature "CHAIM GROSS" along the front lower edge of the integral bronze block. Rendered in a rich, multi-toned golden-brown patina and mounted upon a multi-tiered black pedestal base, the work masterfully captures Gross's career-long fascination with circus arts, human intimacy, and playful balance. The dynamic composition features a stylized maternal figure sweeping forward in a gravity-defying arch while balancing a joyful child aloft, offering an exceptional study of fluid modernist contours and interlocking negative space that typifies Gross's celebrated WPA-era and post-war artistic legacy. Measures including swivel plinth 9.5 inches high, base measures 3.5 inches square. Overall good condition, please see photos.
