Set of eight antique, intricately carved, teak gold-leaf Elephant Chairs/Howdahs. Each chair is approx. 85cm W x 75cm D x 100cm H These saddle chairs, used on the backs of elephants, transported persons of high social station. A symbol of wealth, these were usually embellished with intricate carvings, gems and gold leaf. This set was assembled across three decades (1960s–1980s) by an avid collector. The chairs form a private dining set, hence the 8 pcs in the collection. Each Howdah is of exceptional provenance and date from the late-Nineteenth to mid-Twentieth Centuries and originate from Siam / Burma. They are in near perfect condition. Sold as a set, without cushions. Shipping from Hong Kong. All taxes/duties/import requirements to be paid by buyer.
