Chana Orloff Poisson
Chana Orloff
1888 - 1968
Poisson
Designed circa 1927, our example made in 2006
Patinated bronze
Signed Ch. Orloff, numbered 5/8 on a fin and with the foundry mark SUSSE FD on the tail
34 x 42,5 x 16 cm ; 13 ⅜ x 16 ¾ x 6 ¼ in.
Condition Report:
Good overall good condition.
The patinated bronze surface presents with scattered minor surface irregularities, such as a few pinholes, which are inherent to the making.
We observe areas of wear mostly revealing the original colour of the bronze mostly below the mouth and the tail, as well as a few light oxidation marks in places, consistent with the normal aging process of the material.
The surface also presents with some light scattered scratches, abrasions and small dents along with tiny losses of patina.
A close inspection reveals a retouch of patina to a rubbing mark on the proper right side of the fish.
Catalogue Note:
An alabaster model was exhibited at the 20th Salon d'Automne in Paris in 1927.
This lot is offered with a certificate of authenticity from Ariane Tamir, the artist's granddaughter.
Provenance:
Justman-Tamir collection, family of the artist, France
