Channel Islands.- Sayer (Robert) A General Chart of the Islands of Guernsey and Jersey…, copper engraved map, outlined in colour, decorative title cartouche, inset map of ‘Alderney or Aurigni with the Caskets’, horizontal central fold, very slight toning, [and] A Chart of the Island of Jersey…, copper engraved map, outlined in colour, central vertical fold, light browning, both from Sayer’s ‘A Complete Channel Pilot, comprehending the English and French coasts, from the Thames Mouth to the Bay of Biscay’, framed and glazed, overall size 555 x 760mm, [Shirley: M.Say-6a], for Robert Sayer, December 1st 1786; with Baker (B., engraver) Jersey, wood engraved map, light foxing, framed and glazed, over all size 555 x 795mm, Longman, Reese and Co., 1799 (3) *** The first two maps are a scarce re-issue with Sayer as the only stated publisher. They were first published in May 1779 under Sayer and Bennett and thereafter in several editions until 1784. After Bennett left due to insanity, the business traded under Sayer or Sayer & Co. until his death in 1794, when it changed hands to former apprentices Whittle & Laurie.
