Good, very elegant and well-bound copy of this great classic published in the collection “Historical and Literary Masterpieces of the Middle Ages”.

Very beautiful publisher's binding in half morocco with red corners, spine with 5 raised bands richly decorated with the repeated and compartmentalized coat of arms of Philippe de Commynes. Publisher's name at the bottom. Golden head.

Condition: Decorative and attractive binding. Slight rubbing at the corners and top cover. Interior in very good fresh condition, rare foxing. Very nice untrimmed copy.

Edition established by Chantelauze, illustrated from the original manuscripts of four chromolithographs (Philippe de Commynes and Hélène de Chambes-Montsoreau - Philippe the Good remonstrating with his son Charles - Louis XII, in the figure of Gédéon, giving thanks to God - Genealogy of the kings of France) ; and numerous wood engravings.

Philippe de Commynes (1445-1511) French politician, chronicler and memoirist of Flemish origin. His memoirs constitute valuable sources of the History of France and Europe. They are still the subject of research today. A great visionary, he noted and regretted the permanent antagonism between European nations and aspired to a Europe united and united by Christianity.
