Chanticleer Concept Art Prints Group of 28 signed by Marc Davis (Walt Disney, c. 1960s). From the never-completed Disney animated film Chanticleer, we have in this lot a collection of 28 boards displaying prints with the marvelous concept sketches created by the celebrated Disney Legend Marc Davis (1913 – 2000). The Charles Solomon book The Disney that Never Was describes the planning stages of the production on page 84: "A crew headed by Marc Davis and Ken Anderson spent months developing the story and preparing sheaves of preliminary art. Davis feels that his vivid reproduction sketches rank among his best work at the studio." Displaying a collection of over 50 photographic prints exhibiting Davis’ ideas for characters like the titular rooster Chanticleer, the fox villain Reynard, his henchman Poco Loco, and many of the colorful cast of characters, most of them hand-signed by Davis or featuring his initials, with some showing notes by his hand. The prints are featured on 28 boards measuring approximately 16" x 20". Some of the prints are slightly detached, with some showing pinholes and minor stains, all with light age-related toning. In Very Good condition. From the Disney Legend Inductees Marc and Alice Davis Archive. HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
