Anna Dade Stith was born in King George County, Virginia to Buckner Stith and Anne Dade. She married Col. Robert Bolling IV (1759-1839), a Petersburg, Virginia merchant, planter and Revolutionary War veteran of the Dinwiddie County Militia cavalry in 1797, becoming his fourth wife. Between 1818 and 1823, the Bollings built the area's most fashionable mansion “Centre Hill.” The Bolling house is now the City of Petersburg, Centre Hill Mansion Museum.
