Charles Euphrasie Kuwasseg (1838, Draveil, Essonne - 1904) was a 19th century French painter. He specialized mainly in landscape painting. Oil on canvas, marine, port scene. 1870 Size without frame: 45 x 28 cm Charles Euphrasie Kuwasseg was the son of the Austrian painter Karl Joseph Kuwasseg, with whom he took his first steps as an artist. A pupil of Jean-Baptiste Henri Durand-Brager and Eugène Isabey, Charles E. Kuwasseg left painting for a while to become a long-distance sailor. He specializes in landscapes, in the movement of the Barbizon school. Kuwasseg's favourite subjects are Breton and Norman ports as well as those of the North Sea and Alpine villages. He collaborated with Théophile Poilpot on various series of paintings. From 1855 Charles Euphrasie Kuwasseg exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon where he won numerous awards. Subsequently, he became an art teacher, with Émile Clarel as one of his pupils. Mastering the art of contrast to perfection and showing exceptional finesse, Charles E. Kuwasseg was one of the most admired painters of the 19th century.
