Charles Ford and Parker Tyler - The Young and Evil - 1933

[ translate ]

Scarce first trade edition after a limited signed edition of 50 copies. Ford's first book mainly written by him about his time with Parker Tyler but using much material provided by Tyler, thus a co-authorship though written mainly by Ford while spending time with Djuna Barnes and Gertrude Stein in Paris. A surreal, modernist re-imagining of the lovers first meeting in Greenwich Village in the 1920s, a roman a clef about their wild journey through the parlours and salons of the gay artists & literati, the camp drag bar and balls. There were supposedly 2500 copies of the trade edition, 500 were destroyed by British customs and US customs returned all copies that arrived in the US. One finds only 38 copies held in OCLC as of 11/2018. Ford was best known as the editor of the Surrealist magazine “View” and was born in Mississippi.
