Charles Francis DeKlyn (American, 1865-1958)

Woman in a country landscape. Oil on canvas mounted to board, signed lower left corner, in a gilt wood frame, overall 13 ½" x 18 ½".

Landscape, marine, portrait and figure painter, he was well known in Cleveland (Cuyahoga County) during the 1880's and 1890's. Born in Westchester County, New York, January 10, 1865, as a confectioner's son, he studied in New York and Paris from 1886 to 1891, then taught at the Cleveland Art Club and the Cleveland School of Art. In 1893, he was one of the founders of the Cleveland Brush and Palette Club, and he exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1894 and 1895. A member of the Society of Western Artists, DeKlyn died in Cleveland in 1958. -askart.com
