Charles Hoguet was born in Berlin in 1821 and died in Berlin at the age of 48. His parents were from France and belonged to the so-called Huguenots of the French colony in Berlin. Hoguet travelled a lot, mainly, Western Europe. In all places he painted and left a trace of his work behind. He was particularly involved in painting, but also used lithography several times as a technique. The painting shows a beautiful panoramic landscape with the mill as its central point. The artist belongs to the group of Barbizon painters who took advantage of the opportunity to capture daily activities, such as the miller in his surroundings, on the canvas.
