Catalogue Note:
Charles-Paul Renouard entered the studio of Isidore Pils in 1868. He later collaborated with Pils on the decoration of the Palais Garnier, where he painted the ceiling design for the grand staircase in 1875. He also worked as an illustrator for newspapers and as a pastelist. In this large pastel, two ballerinas are seated in a dance studio, adjusting their pointe shoes before a practice session.
