Charles-Théodore Frère (French, 1814-1888)

By the Oasis
Signed "TH FRÈRE." l.l., identified on a presentation plaque.
Oil on panel, 9 3/8 x 12 3/4 in. (23.3 x 33.0 cm), framed.
Condition: Fine dots of retouch primarily along the edges in the sky, fine craquelure.

Provenance: Christie's New York, 19th Century Paintings, Drawings and Watercolors, October 25, 1988, Lot 371.
Estimate $6,000-8,000

Framed dimensions are 14 x 17 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches.

The reverse has a label from Christie's for their sale on March 1, 1990, Lot 8, but this does not seem to be correct. That label applies to another Frère in this auction, "An Arab Encampment," which was sold on that day by Christie's as a stand alone lot. According to auction databases, "By the Oasis," was sold by Christie's on October 25, 1988, as "Arab Women by an oasis."

Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
