(Pick 34, KNB 14), This series of of Chartered Bank notes all feature a green reverse, for this $5 type, all are seen with "190" printed at right whereas this has "189-" printed. On the left hand side, it looks to be partially hand painted on. To note the manager at that time Whitehead left Hong Kong in 1902, and his signatures are only found on notes dated 1897 or before. With the various features on this note, in the cataloguer's opinion, this was a trial note for the Pick 34 $5. A discovery note that is first seen in the market. 189-年印度新金山中國匯理銀行伍員註銷票，無編號，由當時香港分行總經理Thomas Henderson Whitehead親筆簽名，有加蓋註銷。所有這個版別的5元均在右邊印有‘190’開頭的年份，此票則印上‘189-’，而左邊也有人手加繪的痕跡。Henderson在香港及海外皆地位祟高，所以不乏關於他的記載，包括於1902年赴英擔任印度新金山中國渣打銀行的聯合總經理，而有他簽名的鈔票都屬於1897年或以前的版別。綜合上述證據，編者認為這枚5元是首次流入私人收藏市場的1905年5元試印版，PMG 35，帶紙邊，被註銷，泛黃，褪色
