Provenance:

This historic auction marks the celebration of 90 years of Dillon family stewardship at Château Haut-Brion, acquired by Clarence Dillon in 1935, and represents the first sale dedicated exclusively to the wines of Château Haut-Brion.

Sourced directly and exclusively from the legendary cellars of Château Haut-Brion in Bordeaux, the sale comprises 676 lots spanning nearly a century, from 1935 to 2025. It brings together the full breadth of wines produced at Château Haut-Brion, including Château Haut-Brion Rouge and Blanc, as well as Le Bahans Haut-Brion, Le Clarence de Haut-Brion, Les Plantiers de Haut-Brion and La Clarté de Haut-Brion, the second wines of Château Haut-Brion Rouge and Blanc.

Every lot in this auction was carefully examined by Sotheby’s specialists at Château Haut-Brion, and all bottles have excellent levels and appearance unless otherwise indicated.

Following inspection, the wines were securely packed and transported under controlled conditions from the Domaine.

Château Haut-Brion, Domaine Clarence Dillon: Celebrating Our 10th Decade of Family Stewardship offers collectors an exceptional opportunity to acquire wines of impeccable château provenance from one of the world’s most historic and revered wine estates. As ex-cellar quantities of many historic vintages are now increasingly limited, the depth of vintages, pristine condition and breadth of formats presented in this auction make it a singular moment for collectors of Bordeaux and First Growth wines.

In addition to the wines themselves, the auction will feature six unique experiences created especially to celebrate this anniversary, each paired with rare vintages from Domaine Clarence Dillon’s cellars. Among the highlights is an extraordinary barrel of the 2025 vintage — the first barrel ever to be offered in an ex-cellar First Growth auction — together with a rare Château Haut-Brion console and wine chest from a limited series originally conceived to mark the 75th anniversary of Clarence Dillon’s acquisition of the estate. Designed by David Linley, 2nd Earl of Snowdon, together with H.R.H. Prince Robert of Luxembourg, each console was created to contain a selection of eight bottles representing some of the greatest Château Haut-Brion vintages produced across eight decades of Dillon family ownership.

Also included is a unique limited-edition 2025 PFV case, offered by Primum Familiae Vini, the association of leading family-owned wine producers of which Domaine Clarence Dillon is a member.

A tribute to “The” First Growth of Bordeaux, the sale represents a rare opportunity to acquire wines which, with direct château provenance, embody both the history of Château Haut-Brion and the enduring vision of the Dillon family.
