Chavin Casa Grande Type Stirrup Vessel, TL Tested

[ translate ]

Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Chavin culture, Casa Grande type, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A delightfully proportioned stirrup vessel - a type of canteen that could be tied to the waist for travel over distances or into the fields - featuring a thick handle and spout and a near-spherical body flattened on its lower end to sit neatly on a flat surface. Around the body in high relief are curlicues with dots inside their loops; perhaps these are meant to symbolize snakes or some natural form in the landscape, or perhaps they are just meant to be visually interesting! Size: 5.05" W x 9" H (12.8 cm x 22.9 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Provenance: ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950-1960s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#152602
Condition Report: Expertly repaired and restored from multiple pieces. This is so well done as to be almost indiscernible. Excellent preservation of form and details, with light deposits in the lower profile areas.
