Check Written By Charles Dickens, 1860 W/COA - This extraordinary lot features a check handwritten by English writer Charles Dickens, dated September 5th, 1860. This check, for twenty pounds and four shillings, was written to pay a motel bill. Dickens was born in Portsmouth, England in 1812, and began his literary career working as a journalist. A remarkable social critic, Dickens's most famous works include Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities, and of course, the holiday classic A Christmas Carol. Dickens passed away in Kent at the age of 58 in 1870. This framed lot measures approximately 12.25 in x 15 in, and includes the original certificate of authenticity issued by Scott Velvet, president of Hollywood Rock-N Country.
