Born in China, he studied at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, where he developed a strong foundation in classical Chinese painting techniques. He is best known for his Men in Line (also known as Lining Up) series. Created from the late 1990s through the 2000s, these oil paintings feature rows of identical, minimalist male figures with closed eyes, occasionally interrupted by a single figure with an open eye. Through this restrained and repetitive visual language, Chen Yu reflects on themes of conformity, individuality, and collective identity in contemporary society. The uniform figures evoke the notion of “a thousand people with one face,” offering a subtle yet pointed commentary on social behavior and the tension between sameness and awareness within modern life. His works have been exhibited in China and internationally, and are held in private and institutional collections. ??????????????????????2007?11?25???????? 629?2021?6?30???????? 25?2014?11?23???????? 611???????2007?10?7???????? 657?2020?9?8-15???????? 1031? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
