Chéri Chérin, whose real name is Joseph Kinkonda, born February 16, 1955 in Léopoldville, is a painter from the Democratic Republic of Congo. One of the main representatives of contemporary Congolese popular painting – with Chéri Samba and Moké – he readily addresses themes such as resourcefulness, power or daily life in Kinshasa1. His taste for political satire got him into some trouble during the last years of the Mobutu regime.
