Chimu Bichrome Pottery Vessel w/ Abstract Incised Motif
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A quaint hand-built pottery jar featuring a rounded base, a conical neck, and a rotund body with an abstract linear motif incised across its exterior. The surface is highly burnished displaying a nice lustrous sheen. The neck has been painted a dark brown with a cream-colored stripe encircling its base. The globular body is a deep orange hue with a varnished wood presence. Along its tapered shoulders are incised panels, two on each of its sides, all identical in nature and execution. Abstract anthropomorphic forms including feet and human-like silhouettes can be deciphered when closely observing the loose compositions. The sides of the vessel are accented by narrow stripes illustrated with upward facing triangles or arrows. Size: 6" W x 7.75" H (15.2 cm x 19.7 cm)
